Kids are Smart

Martin:
"I want Barack Obama.  I think it would be a better way.  I don't want to go to being poor, like you don't have enough money for food and stuff."

Lydia:
"Yeah, I think Barack would give us more money."

Martin:
"What's this economic thing they're talking about?"

Mom:
"John McCain thinks he understands economics better than Barack Obama."

Martin:
"I doubt that."

Namesake

A few weeks ago we were talking about Martin's name, and his two namesakes, his Dad and Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.  I think it came up because we'd heard part of the "I Have a Dream" speech on the radio on the way home - it was the day Barack Obama gave his acceptance speech.  Martin had studied Dr. King in school last year (the above photos were from a project booklet he made), and he said "Oh, I know all about the 'I Have a Dream' speech."

We asked Martin to describe Dr. King's dream and he said: "His dream was that one day his children would not be judged by the color of their skin."  It took me by such surprise that I nearly cried.

The kid wants Barack Obama to be our next president.

If you could change the world, what would you do?
